carrying ourselves home (part 1): getting to know our parts

from $0.00

A live-recorded webinar for those wanting to learn more about a parts-approach to trauma resolution.

While it was once thought that healing our trauma took place through recounting our stories to an empathetic listener, it has now become increasingly clear that returning to the past can have detrimental effects on one's healing. Work in the fields of somatics, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and parts work demonstrates that trauma resolution comes through addressing how trauma is living in our bodies now.

One common symptom for so many living with trauma is structural dissociation, a splitting of the brain. Structural dissociation can bring with it the creation of "parts" or protectors that helped keep us alive the best ways they knew how. But as we grow, these adaptive strategies no longer serve us, and we need to work with our parts to shed those old strategies and integrate new ones that enable us to thrive.

The goal, in parts work, is to move from fragmentation to cohesion. This does not mean that we rid ourselves of these parts. In fact, we actually need them for our survival. Instead, we get to know the parts and the younger selves they're trying to protect, and we give them new roles that are rooted in our present. When we do this, we get to carry ourselves home.

The first step in this process is getting to know our parts and the roles they've played in our survival.

In this webinar, you will:

  • Gain a non-pathologizing understanding of trauma and structural dissociation.

  • Learn about the neurobiology of structural dissociation and the role it played in keeping us alive.

  • Receive an introduction to 5 parts : flight, fight, freeze, attach-cry, and submit.

  • Leave with a step-by-step arts-based activity for getting to know your parts, including a 15-page collage kit.

  • Have access to a bonus 30 minute Q&A and receive a 30-page workbook.

What this webinar isn't:

  • A substitute for working with a therapist, though I recognize that trauma-informed therapists are hard to find and therapy isn't accessible for everyone.

  • A comprehensive overview of all of the elements of parts work healing.

Important Notes:

  • The webinar is captioned.

  • You will receive a link to access the workbook shortly after purchased, in which you’ll find the link to watch the recording.
