communicating across conflict: a trauma-informed approach
About the webinar:
We can feel like the best communicators in the world — until conflict occurs. From a neurobiological perspective, the nervous system activation that conflict often brings with it can move us into flight, flight, freeze, or submit. It is very difficult to move through conflict, and communicate effectively, when our trauma responses are online. When all our trauma brain cares about is protection, connection feels impossible. What we need to transform conflict is kind, caring, and curious communication.
In this two hour webinar, participants will:
Learn how to set the stage to have the hard conversations that conflict transformation requires.
Gain the tools for active listening and non-violent communication.
Leave with an understanding of the relationship between our trauma responses, conflict modes, and our core needs.
Please note that this workshop builds off of the foundation gained in part 1: Trauma-Informed Conflict Transformation. You will not be totally lost if you haven’t watched the first webinar, but I will be referencing concepts discussed in that session, including five trauma responses and five conflict modes.
About the facilitator: Margeaux Feldman spent three years as a peer advisor at the Graduate Conflict Resolution Centre at the University of Toronto, and holds a certificate in Conflict Resolution. During their time in this role, Margeaux led 100s of graduate students through conflict resolution workshops and provided 1:1 peer support. After leaving this role, Margeaux created their Conflict Transformation workshop series, and ran the 8-week long course Beyond Conflict.
I am not a therapist, psychologist, or social worker. I’m a writer and educator living with complex trauma. I have a certificate in Integrated Somatic Trauma Therapy from the Embody Lab and am completing a certificate program in Embodied Social Justice through Transformative Change. You can learn more about my educational background here.
